The Lake Forest men's basketball team overcame a halftime deficit to pick up a conference win on the road Saturday at Lawrence University, 80-75.
Senior
Alex Knight led the way with 21 points for the Foresters (9-11, 6-5 MWC), while wing
Coltrane Marchand added 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Guard
Elijah Bull was extremely efficient in picking his spots on when to score and when to distribute; Bull scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting and added a game-high eight assists.
The Foresters' long-range shooting came alive in the second half. After shooting just 30 percent from three-point land in the first half, Lake Forest shot scalding a 60 percent from three-point range after halftime, allowing the Foresters to turn a four-point halftime deficit into a five-point victory.
It was a balanced attack from distance as four different Foresters hit from outside in the second half.
Cristian Rodriguez hit just his second three-pointer of the season, and Marchand drained three of his four made three-pointers after halftime, as Knight and wing
Luke Arington also hit from three-point range.
Marchand's second-half shooting was timely. The junior hit back-to-back threes to mitigate an 8-0 Lawrence run, then got himself to the free-throw line to tie the game at 69 and cap a personal 8-0 run.
The Foresters showed growth Saturday from their previous game against Monmouth, in which Lake Forest let a lead slip away in the final minute.
Clinging to a two-point lead with under a minute remaining, Lake Forest went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line and did not turn the ball over to put the game out of reach.
The Foresters will have an entire week before their next game, as they will face Grinnell College on the road next Saturday at 3 p.m.
