A night after winning 7-3 on the road, the Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 3-1 by Marian University at home on Saturday.
The visitors scored less than four minutes into the contest and led the rest of the way. Another goal just 36 seconds later closed out the first period scoring and Marian converted a power play opportun ity at 8:50 in the second to make the score 3-0.
The Foresters' only goal was freshman forward
Christopher O'Flaherty's team-high-tying seventh of the season. Marian had cleared the zone but Forester senior defenseman
Andrew Nieusma sent the puck back in. The Sabre goaltender went to retrieve it behind the goal but so did Lake Forest freshman forward
Will Brown and he was able to get it to O'Flaherty along the goal line. O'Flaherty flipped it in before the goalie could get back in position and the deficit was down to two with 5:35 to play in the second period.
Unfortunately for Lake Forest, the comeback bid ended there.
The Foresters had a slight 33-30 advantage in shots but were unable to close the gap and fell to 4-7-1 overall and 4-4-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this season.
Marian, meanwhile, improved to 3-7-1 overall and 2-6-0 in the league.
It was the final game of 2025 for Lake Forest, which will resume its season with non-conference games at Augsburg University January 2-3.
