The Forester football team dominated on both sides of the ball in a 63-0 victory at Knox College on Saturday.
Lake Forest limited the Prairie Fire to just six first downs and 53 total yards on the afternoon while racking up 499 yards of offense and averaging 10.2 yards per play.
Four of the Foresters' touchdowns came on the ground, including two by freshman running back
Brayden Long, whose last name described both scores. He reached the end zone on a 77-yard run late in the second quarter and from 54 yards out in the third. Long finished the day with 137 yards on just three carries.
Senior offensive lineman Vinny Colassaco started the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run and freshman tailback
Teyon Green closed it out on a rushing play from 39 yards out.
The Lake Forest offense was also successful through the air with sophomore quarterback completing 12 of 16 passes for 196 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. He connected with freshman tight end
James Jordan on scoring strikes of 14 and 19 yards, completed a 33-yard touchdown pass to freshman wide receiver
Luke Maxson, and added a 21-yarder to junior wideout
Dom Esposito. Springer's passing efficiency rating on the day of 260.4 is the fifth-highest mark in program history.
The Foresters also scored once on defense with sophomore safety
Kaden Kern picking off a second quarter pass and returning it 57 yards to the end zone.
The Lake Forest defense recorded 11 tackles for loss and posted its fifth shutout in the last six games. Junior linebacker
Jackson Sander led the unit with a dozen tackles and accounted for 2.0 tackles for loss. Senior linebacker
Charlie Fordon was next with nine stops and his 3.5 tackles for loss on the day raised his season total to 13.5, which is tied with Sander for the team lead.
Junior defensive end
Preston Mosher sacked the quarterback twice, established a new career high with eight tackles overall, and forced a fumble. Senior defensive back
Sam Krosch recovered a Prairie Fire fumble in the fourth quarter for another turnover.
Lake Forest's special teams were also successful on Saturday. Sophomore kicker
Hudson Schambach's nine extra points in as many attempts matched the fifth-highest total in team history while freshman punter Jacob Gump averaged 41.7 yards on his three attempts. Fellow freshman
Jeramichael Hernandez returned five punts a total of 49 yards and added 36 yards on a kickoff return.
The victory is the Foresters' sixth in a row and they are now 6-3 overall and 6-2 in Midwest Conference play this season. Knox, meanwhile, fell to 2-6 overall and 2-5 in the league.
Lake Forest will host the University of Chicago in the regular season finale for both teams next Saturday at noon.
