Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Steve Bourbon

Forowycz reaches milestone as Foresters cruise at home

Alex Forowycz notched 23 points and reached the 1,000-point mark for his career, while Alex Brown recorded a career-high 15 points, as the Lake Forest men's basketball team rolled to a 99-70 win over Macalester College on Saturday at the Sports and Recreation Center.

Lake Forest (2-3) shot 47.9 percent from the field and went 12-of-32 from behind the three-point line, as the Foresters set a new season high for points scored in the win. In the second half alone, Lake Forest shot 61.3 percent from the field, while holding Macalester (3-3) to 32.4 percent shooting after halftime.

Forowycz is the 25th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark for his career. The senior drove baseline, spun back to the middle of the floor, and baited the Scots defense with a pair of pump fakes before laying the ball in to reach the century mark. The Lake Forest, Ill., native scored his 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting; he did most of his damage inside the arc, as Forowycz was a perfect 7-for-7 from two-point range.

For the senior Brown, it was his second straight game setting a new career high after scoring 12 points Wednesday against Illinois Tech. The wing from Plainfield, Ill., was one of the main catalysts for the Lake Forest offense early in the game with 13 first-half points.

Forward Cristian Rodriguez recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Luke Arington contributed 13 points off the bench for Lake Forest.

The two teams battled back and forth for much of the first half before the Foresters put together a run late in the half to create some separation. Lake Forest utilized a 14-1 run after freshman guard Anthony Favia hit a floater to take 36-24 lead. The Foresters led by as many as 13 in the first half and entered intermission with a 41-30 lead.

The Foresters' lead ballooned early in the second half, as Forowycz poured it on. Lake Forest went on a 15-0 run to push their advantage to 64-40, with eight of those points coming via Forowycz.

The Foresters will have a quick turnaround for their next contest, as Lake Forest will host Saint Mary's University (Minnesota) on Tuesday. Tipoff at the Sports and Recreation Center is at 6 p.m.
