Foresters Prevail 5-0 in Season-Opener at Superior

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team began the 2025-26 season with a 5-0 victory at University of Wisconsin-Superior Friday night.

The shutout was the seventh in the career of junior goaltender Chelsea Denniss, who now ranks tied-for-fourth in program history in that category. The Yellowjackets actually out-shot the Foresters 26-24 but each attempt was turned away by Denniss, including 10 in the final period.

The Foresters started the scoring at the 5:38 mark of the opening period and just 20 seconds into their first power play opportunity of the season. It was the first of two goals on the night for junior forward Jasmine Kohl, who was also 9-7 on faceoffs.

Leading 1-0 going after the first period, Lake Forest broke through for four more goals in the second. The first was scored at the 6:02 mark by freshman forward Sophie Smith in her collegiate debut.

The next two tallies followed Superior penalties and the Foresters finished the contest 3-for-7 on the power play. Kohl struck at the 8:49 mark and senior defenseman WIllow Poppleton at 18:53.

Junior forward Ella Maher, who earned assists on the goals from Smith and Poppleton, closed out the scoring with one of her own with just 37.4 seconds remaining in the period.

Lake Forest won 30 of 45 faceoffs on the night with freshman forward Alex Luke leading the way at 9-2.

The teams will face off again Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
