The Forester women's volleyball team fell in three sets to the Vikings of Lawrence University in a Wednesday night Midwest Conference match.
The Vikings took control of the match early on, storming out a 5-0 lead. The home team closed to within three but got no closer during the opening set, which ended at 25-16.
Set two was tied at six before the visitors pulled ahead with three in a row. Lake Forest come within two points on multiple occasions, but could not complete the comeback. The Vikings eventually closed out the set 25-20.
The third set was also tied early before a four-point run by the Vikings gave them the lead for good. The margin grew to as many as 10 points at 17-7 before the Foresters began to come back. They closed to withing three at 24-21 before Lawrence won the final point of the contest.
Freshman
Rio Dirksen recorded her first collegiate double-double, leading Lake Forest with 13 kills and adding 11 digs. Team-high honors also went to freshman
Alisa Kevric with 14 digs and seniors
Ireland Van Stone and
Lilly Robinson with three aces and 23 assists, respectively. Robinson also had three blocks, as did junior
Sadie Frye.
Lake Forest (4-14, 1-5 MWC) hits the court again at 7:00 this Friday night at Ripon College.
