The Lake Forest College men's soccer team secured its 20th conference championship in program history on Saturday afternoon, defeating Cornell College 2–0 to officially clinch the Midwest Conference crown with two conference games still remaining in the regular season.
With this win and results elsewhere in the league, the Foresters (15–0–0, 6–0–0 MWC) locked up the title outright, their fourth in the past five seasons, while continuing their unbeaten run as the only perfect team in all of Division III.
After a scoreless first half, Lake Forest took control late. Sophomore Finn Gruver broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute with his third goal of the season. Just six minutes later, senior Alexis Flores sealed the victory with a composed strike, his first of the year, capping off another complete performance on both sides of the ball.
The Foresters outshot Cornell 26–8 (14–3 on goal) and earned 12 corner kicks while holding the Rams without a single attempt from the corner flag. Freshman goalkeeper Conor Leuschke notched his fourth clean sheet of the season, making three saves behind a steady back line anchored by senior Christian Karabetsos, junior Ollie Francis, senior Alexis Flores, and freshman Rocky Rabago.
Offensively, junior Nathan Kostovetsky, freshman Chad Endozo, and senior Gio Diaz generated consistent pressure throughout the match, keeping Cornell on its heels until the Foresters broke through late.
Lake Forest will next travel to Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday, October 21, for a non-conference matchup before returning home to host Grinnell College for Senior and Parents Day on October 25 at Farwell Field.
