Fourth-Quarter Rally Falls Short for Foresters

Box Score It was a game of runs for the Lake Forest women's basketball team Saturday against Knox College. Despite overcoming a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to take the lead with just over a minute to go, the Foresters could not hold on to the win in an 80-78 loss at home.
 
Senior Rebecca Christodoulou came off the bench for the first time this season for Lake Forest (3-14, 2-7 MWC) and led the way with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists . Her left-handed layup tied the game at 78 with 15 seconds remaining.
 
Knox converted a layup with less than three seconds remaining to retake the lead and Ariana Torralba's half-court heave at the buzzer for the win would not go down for Lake Forest.
 
Careah Baitlon had 15 points and five assists, and Torralba added 13 points, six rebounds and three steals. In her first start of the season, senior Peyton Davidson tied a season high with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
 
The Foresters shot a season-high 43.7 percent from the field.
 
Knox utilized a 16-0 run that spanned the end of the third quarter into the beginning of the fourth to take a 14-point lead with just under seven minutes remaining in the game.
 
The Foresters would respond with a balanced scoring effort and increased defensive intensity. Six different players scored during a 20-4 Lake Forest run, capped by a Baitlon three-pointer to take a 76-74 lead with 1:15 remaining. During the run, Knox was held to 25 percent shooting with five turnovers.
 
Lake Forest put together a similar run to end the first half and go into the break with the lead. The Foresters ended the second quarter on a 17-2 run to take a three-point lead at intermission, with Christodoulou and Baitlon combining for 13 points during the run. Lake Forest ratcheted up its defensive intensity in the second quarter, holding Knox to 18.8 percent shooting from the field and 0-for-7 from three-point range.
 
The Foresters will cap off their three-game homestand Tuesday night against Monmouth College at 5:30 p.m.
