The Lake Forest women's basketball team put together a team effort at home Wednesday night in a 63-57 win over Beloit College.
Â
The Foresters (3-13, 2-6 MWC) saw a number of players provide scoring contributions with five Foresters reaching double-digit scoring and six players scored at least six points.
Â
Lake Forest was powered by their frontcourt combination of center
Peyton Noles, and forwards
Makayla Campbell and
Rylie Crecelius. The trio combined for 27 points, 19 rebounds and six assists and helped the Foresters win the rebounding battle 45-34.
Â
Individually, it was the best game of the freshman Campbell's young Forester career. Campbell scored 11 points and collected 10 rebounds – both of which set new career-highs for her first career double-double.
Â
Careah Baitlon added 10 points and Ariana Torralba was Lake Forest's primary threat from beyond the arc, draining three three-pointers for the game.
Â
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team taking more than a 5-point lead. Noles wasted no time making an impact as a spark plug off the bench in the first quarter. The Colorado native made her first three shots and scored six points in just five minutes of action in the opening frame.
Â
After taking a three-point lead into halftime, Lake Forest extended its advantage in the third quarter on a Crecelius layup to push the Forester lead to 36-29.
Â
The Buccaneers would respond right away with a 10-2 run over nearly five minutes to take a brief 39-38 lead late in the third quarter. The Beloit advantage was short-lived, as the freshman Torralba hit a three-pointer late in the period to retake the lead.
Â
In the fourth quarter, Lake Forest put together its best shooting quarter of the game, making 53.3 percent of its shots, including making 3-of-5 attempts from behind the three-point line. The Foresters led nearly the entire final period and allowed just four points in the final 3:39 of the game.
Â
The Foresters will look for another home win this weekend, as Lake Forest takes on Knox College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
