Jamie Springstead played one of her best games in her Lake Forest career Saturday at Illinois College, however, the Foresters could not pull out the victory, falling 74-55.
Springstead filled the box score with 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists – all of which set new career highs. The Florida native was extremely efficient shooting the ball for Lake Forest (2-13, 1-6 MWC), making 6-of-11 field-goal attempts and drilled 3-of-5 from behind the three-point line.
Seniors
Peyton Noles and
Rebecca Christodoulou joined Springstead in double figures scoring. Noles controlled the paint with 13 points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocks, while Christodoulou provided a balanced effort with 11 points, five rebounds and six assists; the six dimes tied her previous career high set in the season opener on Nov. 9 against St. Mary's (IN).
The Foresters could not find enough offense throughout the duration of the game; Lake Forest shot just 29.2 percent from the field and was limited to 5-of-24 shooting from the three-point line.
Noles got into a rhythm early in the game to give Lake Forest the lead. The center scored 10 of the Foresters' 18 points in the opening quarter, leading Lake Forest to a one-point lead at the end of the frame.
In a back-and-forth second quarter, the Foresters turned to Springstead for offense. The guard scored nine points in a variety of ways, including getting to the rim twice for layups, a made three-pointer, and a pair of free throws. However, the Foresters only mustered 12 points in the quarter and went into halftime trailing by three.
Lake Forest would run out of steam in the second half, as Illinois College outscored the Foresters 41-25 after the break.
The Foresters will return home for their next competition against Beloit on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
