Fourth Quarter Comeback Not Quite Enough against Cornell

The Forester women's basketball team cut an 18-point deficit to three in the fourth quarter but was unable to complete the comeback, falling 73-67 to Cornell College at home on Saturday.

Lake Forest trailed 58-40 after three quarters of play before outscoring the Rams 18-3 in a six-and-a-half minute span. Senior center Peyton Noles accounted for six of the points while five other Foresters made a field goal during the run.

Cornell, however, scored the game's next six points and maintained a lead of at least six the rest of the way.

Sophomore guard Careah Baitlon led the home team with a career-high 18 points. She shot 5-for-10 from three-point range and added four assists in the contest.

Senior guard Rebecca Christodoulou was next on the squad with 15 points while Noles added a career-high 14 on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Christodoulou also had five rebounds, three steals, and a game-high five assists on the afternoon.

Lake Forest shot 37.7 percent from the floor while the Rams connected on 41.8 percent of their field goal attempts. Cornell outscored the Foresters 33-27 on three-pointers and 16-6 from the foul line but committed 19 of the game's 34 turnovers.

The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record on the season to 2-11 and Midwest Conference mark to 1-4. Cornell improved to 9-4 overall and 5-0 in the league.

Lake Forest will travel to Ripon College on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
