The Lake Forest College men's hockey team avenged the previous day's loss with a 6-2 victory at Marian University on Saturday.
Six different Foresters scored, beginning with freshman forward
Trevor Faucher on the power play at the 15:13 mark of the opening period. His team-high-tying seventh score of the season was assisted by senior forwards
Justin Ross and
Jared Gerger.
Gerger doubled the visitors' lead just 76 seconds later with his fourth goal of the year and Lake Forest led 2-0 with a 15-9 advantage in shots after 20 minutes of play.
The Sabres closed to within one on a power play goal at 3:09 in the second and the score remained 2-1 for the rest of the period.
The official game-winning goal came from senior forward
Griffen Sanom 73 seconds into the third period. It was his third of the season.
Junior defensemanÂ
Andrew Nieusma's first goal of the year came just 50 seconds later and Gerger set up the first of the season for senior defenseman
Matteas Derraugh at the 5:04 mark.
After Marian ended the Foresters' three-goal run at 12:21, senior defenseman
Hardy Wagner restored the visitors four-goal cushion two minutes later. He became the third player on the team to score for the first time this season and Ross picked up his career-high-tying third assist of the contest on the play.
Lake Forest was out-shot 38-36 in the game but junior goaltender
Dylan Kruss made a season-high 36 saves to help his team come away with the victory.
The Foresters are now 6-8-1 overall and 2-5-1 with eight points in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Marian fell to 6-9-0 and 3-5-0 with 10 points in the league.
Lake Forest will host Adrian College next weekend.
