The Forester men's hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to visiting Marian University at Lake Forest Academy on Friday.
The Sabres scored first, converting a power play opportunity with 1:04 remaining in the opening period.
The home team tied the game midway through the second period.
Justin Ross forced a turnover inside the Marian zone and fellow senior forward
Jared Gerger took possession of the loose puck and skated toward the goal. Once the Sabre goaltender committed to stopping him, he slid the puck to Ross, who sent his shot into a wide open left side of the goal. It was the team-high-tying seventh score of the season for Ross.
Unfortunately for the Foresters, that was their only goal of the contest.
Marian regained the lead with 5:40 to play in the second and added a pair of goals just 33 seconds apart early in the third. The visitors' final tally was scored on an empty net with 2:21 remaining.
The Sabres out-shot the Foresters 17-8 in the opening period but the home team had a 21-20 advantage in that category for the rest of the game.
The loss dropped Lake Forest's overall record on the season to 5-8-1 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 1-5-1. Marian improved to 6-8-0 overall and 3-4-0 in the league.
The teams will face off again in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
