The Lake Forest College men's soccer team was edged out 3-2 at Elmhurst University Wednesday night.
The Foresters had the lead for significant time in each half. They pulled ahead for the first time just 10 minutes into the contest when sophomore
Nico Lomanto fired a shot from the far left side of the box into the upper-right corner of the net.
The home team tied the score at the 28:26 mark and it remained 1-1 for the rest of the first half.
Lake Forest regained the lead in the 57th minute. Lomanto's pass into the box from the left side of the field was headed up into the air to the right of the goal by sophomore
Nathan Kostovetsky. Junior
Brett Klemescame rushing up the right side of the field and, at nearly full speed, made solid contact with the ball just before it hit the ground. His shot caromed off the left post and into the goal to put the Foresters back on top.
The lead appeared to be 3-1 just 80 seconds later when Kostovetsky kicked in a cross but, after a discussion between the referee and linesman, offsides was called and the goal came off the scoreboard.
Twenty more minutes passed before the Bluejays tied the score with 10 minutes remaining and then netted what proved to be the game-winner with 7:41 on the clock.
The Foresters out-shot the home team 10-5 in the second half and 17-12 in the contest. They put eight of those shots on goal to the Bluejays' seven.
Lake Forest will play its home opener against Benedictine University Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
