Men and Women Place Eighth at Ken Weidt Classic

The Forester men's and women's cross country teams placed eighth in Saturday's Ken Weidt Classic at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

The men's 8-kilometer race was first and Lake Forest was led by senior Bart Brophy, who completed the course in 30:03.4 and placed 76th out of 142 competitors. Three more Foresters were among the next 20 to cross the finish line, beginning with sophomore Ali Faiz in 80th at 30:16.8. Fellow sophomore Austin Hewes finished in 31:09.1 and freshman Owen Lashenik in 31:32.7. Freshman Demos Manoukis rounded out the top five with a time of 32:20.9.

The Foresters' top finisher in the women's 6-kilometer event was sophomore Sophie Graham. She was 33rd out of 153 runners with a clocking of 25:33.8. Classmate Lettia Hoda was next on the team and 76th overall in 27:23.6. Junior Megan Dodrill completed the course in 27:54.0, freshman Eleanor Clark in 29:01.8, and fellow freshman Stella Abernathy in 30:56.8.

Milwaukee School of Engineering won the men's race with 30 points, 20 fewer than runner-up University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The Foresters 247 points were 30 better than Rockford University for eighth place.

La Crosse finished first in the women's race with 45 points, edging out Lawrence University by six and Concordia Wisconsin by 12. Lake Forest had 243 points to place eighth, nine points ahead of Concordia University Chicago.

The Foresters will be in action again next Saturday at Wheaton College's Gil Dodds Invitational. The meet will begin at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville, Illinois.
