Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Foresters Erase Six-Goal Deficit in Victory over Edgewood

After falling behind 7-1 in the second quarter, the Lake Forest College men's lacrosse team came back and defeated Edgewood College 13-12 at home on Saturday.

The Eagles' third man-up score of the game gave them a six-goal advantage with 8:25 to play in the first half. The comeback began 43 seconds later with a score by freshman Macklin Thomas and continued with a tally from junior Trip Gaston at the 4:56 mark. After an Edgewood goal with 2:25 on the clock, freshman Carson Pagel pulled the Foresters back to within four just 42 seconds later.

Trailing 8-4 at halftime, the Foresters rattled off six straight goals in the third quarter. Thomas and junior Parker Hevers each accounted for two of them and additional scores came from Gaston and sophomore Brendan Herbert. The Eagles, however, struck again as time expired, cutting the Lake Forest lead to 10-9.

Junior Chas Dean added to the Forester lead, as did Herbert and Thomas, early in the fourth quarter. With four goals in the contest, Thomas now leads the team with 15 on the season while Herbert is next with 14. Sophomore Ryan Dousevicz set up Dean and Herbert's scores and had three assists in a game for the second time this year..

Lake Forest's 13-9 lead got less and less comfortable as three consecutive Eagle goals, the last with 56 seconds remaining, made it a one-score game. Forester graduate student Gordon Kiesgen IV won the ensuing face-off, his 15th victory in 19 chances on the day, and the home team was able to possess the ball until a turnover in the closing seconds gave Edgewood one more opportunity to tie the score. The shot was wide, however, and the Foresters escaped with the victory.

Lake Forest junior Conor Murphy led all players in the game with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. He also scored the Foresters' only first quarter goal.

Fellow junior Andrew Widlar made 11 saves and earned the victory.

The Foresters remained perfect after five games this season while Edgewood fell to 2-4.

Lake Forest will travel to Carthage College on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
