The Lake Forest College softball team was defeated 5-3 in eight innings by Roger Williams University and 8-1 by Rowan University on Friday.
The first game of the day could not have started better for the Foresters. After retiring the Hawks in order in the top of the first inning, freshman center fielder
Kaia Mismash led off the bottom of the frame with an inside-the-park home run.
Mismash also scored the game's next run on a two-out single by junior second baseman
Kelly Collins in the third.
A two-run double for Roger Williams in the top of the fifth tied the score at two and it remained that way until the eighth. The Hawks rallied for three runs in the top of the inning and the Foresters plated just one in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice bunt by freshman first baseman
Makayla Tarasiewicz.
Junior
Brooke Challe went the distance in the circle for Lake Forest, surrendering three earned runs on eight base hits while walking and striking out two each.
The second game did not start well for the Foresters. Rowan scored one in the bottom of the first, three in the second, and two more in the third to take a 6-0 lead.
Lake Forest's only tally of the contest came on a sacrifice fly by freshman right fielder
Jolie Devalk in the top of the fourth. Devalk also had the team's only extra base hit of the contest, a sixth inning double.
Mismash was 2-for-3 at the plate to extend her season-opening hitting streak to nine games. She recorded multiple hits in seven of those contests.
The losses dropped Lake Forest's record this season to 6-4. Roger Williams improved to 7-3 and Rowan to 11-5.
The Foresters will close out their Spring Break trip to Florida tomorrow against Loras College and Simpson College.
