The Lake Forest College softball team closed out its Spring Break trip to Florida on Friday by falling 2-0 loss to Loras College and 11-8 to Simpson College.
Forester freshman pitcher
Jasmine Kohl made her collegiate debut in the circle in the team's first game of the day and went the distance, allowing just one earned run on five base hits while striking out two.
The Duhawks plated a run in the top of the first inning and one more in the third to account for all the game's scoring.
Freshman center fielder
Kaia Mismash accounted for two of Lake Forest's four base hits.
The Foresters doubled their hit total with eight in their second game of the day but Simpson racked up a dozen, including a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The ending ruined an impressive comeback by the Foresters, who trailed 5-0 before plating four runs in the top of the third and two more in the fourth. The first rally featured a sacrifice fly by sophomore left fielder Brooke Swiecke, a two-run double by sophomore catcher
Kyla Chevalier, and an RBI single by sophomore third baseman
Cadence Dempsey. Mismash singled in the first run and Swiecke drove in another on a groundout to put Lake Forest on top 6-5 in the middle of the fourth inning.
The Storm tied the score in the bottom of the fourth and then regained the lead with another tally in the fifth.
Lake Forest loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth in Chevalier came through with a two-run single to put her team on top 8-7.
The score remained 8-7 until the bottom of the seventh when Simpson tied the game on a single and on it on a three-run homer.
The losses evened the Foresters' record on the season at 6-6 while Loras improved to 11-4 and Simpson to 11-5.
Lake Forest will be in action again next Saturday at Carthage College with the doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
