The Forester women's hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to Aurora University at home Friday night to open the final series of the regular season.
It was a 1-0 game for the vast majority of the contest after the Spartans struck at the 7:33 mark of the opening period. The visitors also tacked on an empty net goal as time expired.
Lake Forest put 28 shots on goal but were unable to get one past the Aurora goalie.
Sophomore goaltender
Angie Lombardi kept the Foresters in the game by making 15 saves in the opening period and 14 in each of the final two. While she took the loss, Lombardi's .977 save percentage on the night raised her season mark to .909.
Lake Forest is now 13-5-0 and Aurora 14-9-1 overall this year. At 10-4-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play, the Spartans are two points ahead of the 10-5-0 Foresters in the standings.
The same two teams will face off again in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse in Saturday's regular season finale at 3:00 p.m. It will by Lake Forest's Senior Day and Alumni Day and both groups will be recognized.Â
