The Lake Forest College women's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting Aurora University in Saturday afternoon's regular season finale.
Aurora scored the only goal of the opening period and then added three more tallies in the second.
The Foresters got on the scoreboard at the 4:42 mark of the third period on freshman forward
Tallulah Bryant's fifth score of the season. Freshman defenseman
Kate Brennan and sophomore forward
Shannon Gibbons battled a pair of Spartans for control of the puck behind the Aurora goal and the pass came out to Bryant, who fired it in from between the circles to make the score 4-1.
The home team got no closer, however, and was unable to edge out Aurora for third place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings.
The Spartans had a 44-33 edge in shots on goal in the contest.
It was Senior Day for the Foresters and fourth-year players
Danielle Selby,
Grace Garby, and
Caitlyn Dahut were honored before the game.
Lake Forest completed the regular season with an overall record of 13-12-0 and NCHA mark of 10-6-0. Aurora finished 15-9-1 overall and 11-4-1 in the league.
The Foresters will host fifth place Concordia University Wisconsin in the quarterfinals of the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs next weekend. The two-game series will begin Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday's game two will start at 3:00 p.m. If the series is tied, the teams will play a 20-minute minigame after Saturday's contest.
