The Forester women's basketball team led for most of the first half but struggled in the second in a 94-61 loss at Ripon College Wednesday night.
Lake Forest doubled up the home team 24-12 in the first quarter and scored the first two points of the second. The Red Hawks finally tied the score with 3:14 to play in the half and took the lead for good less than 30 seconds later. The halftime score was 40-32 and Ripon was ahead 67-44 after shooting 9-for-13 from the field and 8-for-10 from the foul line in the third quarter.
Senior guard
Maurissa Edwards was 7-for-14 from the floor and led the Foresters with 18 points. Fellow senior guard
Melissa Gomez and sophomore guard
Taylor Major were next on the team with 12 and 10, respectively.
The Foresters shot a solid 43.8 percent from the field in the game but the Red Hawks were significantly more efficient at 53.3 percent. Ripon outscored Lake Forest 24-15 from the foul line and had a commanding 39-18 advantage on the boards.
The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record to 6-18 and Midwest Conference mark to 4-11. Ripon, the 2023-24 league champion, is now 17-7 overall and 14-1 in conference play.
Lake Forest will close out the season against Beloit College at home on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
