The Forester track team traveled just north of the state line to compete in the season-opening Forever Red Alumni Classic at Carthage College on Saturday.
Highlighting Lake Forest's performance at the meet were a 1-2-3 finish in the men's 800m and a victory and a third-place posting in the women's mile.
Sophomore
Ollie Francis won the 800m in 2:04.50 while senior
Bart Brophy and sophomore
Austin Hewes each crossed the finish line less than two-tenths of a second later. Brophy and Francis already rank first and fourth, respectively, in program history in the event and Hewes is now fourth at 2:04.69. Brophy was also fourth in the mile on Saturday in 4:38.78.
Sophomore
Lettia Hoda prevailed in the mile by more than two seconds, completing the race in 5:28.23. She now ranks fourth in team history in the event. Classmate Sophia Graham was third in 5:47.30.
A pair of sprinters also added their names to the program's top-5 list in multiple events. Freshman
Farah Tawfik earned two points at the meet by placing fifth in the 400m (1:09.65) but her times in two other races were among the best ever by a Forester. Her clocking in the 55m converts to 8.57 for 60m, which ranks second in the team annals while her 29.64 in the 200m is fourth. On the men's side, sophomore Shuntaro Namakura is now tied-for-second in program history in the 60m (converts to 7.27) and fourth in the 200m (24.01).
Several other Foresters scored points at the meet, including freshman
Andrea Fernandez and senior
Matthew Lungu in the 400m, junior
Jacquelyn Han in the 55m hurdles, junior
Megan Dodrill in the 800m, and junior
Ali Faiz and freshman
Demos Manoukis in the 3000m.
Lake Forest will not compete again until returning to Carthage for the Firebird First on January 18.
