The Lake Forest men's basketball team came out of the gate strong Saturday but could not sustain their hot shooting in a 79-77 loss at Cornell College.
Â
The Foresters (3-5, 0-2 MWC) were fueled by a balanced attack on offense with four players scoring in double figures, led by senior guard
Alex Knight's 20 points.
Â
Lake Forest had a shot to tie the game with 10 seconds remaining that did not go down to secure the victory for Cornell (6-2, 2-0).
Â
Wing
Alex Forowycz scored 15 points and junior wing
Luke Arington set a personal season-high with 12 points; both players found the range from three-point land with each netting three triples.
Â
After a back-and-forth start to the game, Lake Forest seized control via a 16-5 run nearing the end of the half – with eight of the Foresters' points in that span coming from Forowycz.
Â
The Foresters connected on 5-of-10 three-pointers and shot 58.1 percent from the field in the first half, giving them an 11-point lead at the break.
Â
It was more of the same to start the second half as the Foresters held onto their double-digit lead, with their advantage ballooning as large as 15 points at 65-50 after a layup from Knight.
Â
However, it was Cornell that hit a barrage of three-pointers that the Foresters saw their lead evaporate after a 23-4 run from the hosts down the stretch.
Â
Lake Forest will be back in action Dec. 15 in a non-conference game on the road against Kalamazoo College.
