Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Steve Bourbon

Foresters’ Offense Goes Cold in Loss at Monmouth

The Lake Forest men's basketball team couldn't keep up at Monmouth College Tuesday night, falling 79-46.

Senior guard Alex Knight led the Foresters with 10 points and four assists, while sophomore wing Coltrane Marchand scored an efficient eight points and added five rebounds.

The Foresters' (3-4, 0-1 MWC) offense was held in check by the hosts (4-1, 1-0) for much of the night. Lake Forest shot 29 percent from the field, 14 percent from three-point range, and 50 percent from the free-throw line – all well below the Foresters' season averages.

Knight got Lake Forest on the board to start the game, converting a steal into a strong and-one. Marchand made a layup to give the Foresters a 5-4 lead early, but the lead would be short-lived, as Monmouth would go on an 8-0 run.

Knight made a layup and junior wing Alex Forowycz hit a three to cut the Monmouth lead to 15-13, however that is as close as the Foresters would get the rest of the game.

The Foresters defense did an admirable job of limiting the Fighting Scots at the offensive end and forced many missed shots, holding Monmouth to just 37 percent shooting in the first half; however, eight Monmouth offensive rebounds stymied the Lake Forest defense. Throughout the game, Monmouth racked up 23 second-chance points.

The Monmouth offense came alive in the second half, as the Scots scored 49 points in the final 20 minutes, and the Forester offense couldn't find its rhythm, making only one of 14 second-half three-point attempts.

The Foresters will be back in action Saturday at 3:00 p.m. on the road against Cornell.
