Lake Forest Earns Second Point with Shootout Win at Aurora

After playing to a 2-2 tie in regulation and a five-minute overtime period at Aurora University Friday night, the Forester women's hockey team scored the only goal in the shootout to earn two points in the league standings.

Both teams led during the game's opening period.

After the Spartans pulled ahead just 79 seconds into the contest, Lake Forest eventually tied the score on junior forward Ella Maher's first goal of the season. She was assisted by sophomore forward Victoria Liu at the 14:42 mark.

The Foresters took the lead just three minutes later when senior defenseman Abby Meyer converted a power play opportunity for her first goal of the year. Lake Forest was 1-for-3 and Aurora 0-for-7 on the power play on the night.

The only other score of the game came from the home team at 9:28 in the second period.

Lake Forest sophomore goaltender Chelsea Denniss turned away 38 of the Spartans' 40 shots on goal in the contest, including the last 21 with the score tied at two..

Denniss was also perfect during the shootout. After both teams were unsuccessful in their first four attempts, Forester junior defenseman Willow Poppleton scored and Aurora was unable to match.

The game goes down as a tie, leaving Lake Forest with a 1-1-1 record and Aurora with a mark of 0-1-2 on the season. It was the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opener for both teams and they will face off again in Lake Forest Saturday evening at 7:00.
