The Lake Forest College women's soccer team is hosting the 2024 Midwest Conference Tournament this weekend and defeated Beloit College 1-0 in the semifinals on Friday.
The only goal of the contest came from junior midfielder
Izzy DeStefano, who was able to get past the Buccaneer defense and put the home team on top at the 12:21 mark. It was DeStefano's 13th score of the season, matching her total from a year ago.
The Foresters had many more opportunities but were unable to add to their lead. Lake Forest out-shot Beloit 22-3 on the day and put eight of those attempts on target to the visitors' one. The Foresters also had a 7-3 edge in corner kicks in the game.
The shutout was the seventh of the season for Lake Forest senior goalkeeper
Franca Finch and she is now tied-for-fourth in program history with 15 such performances in her career.
The victory raised the Foresters' record on the year to 14-2-3 and extended the second-longest unbeaten streak in team history to 15 games. Beloit finished the year at 5-11-3.
Lake Forest and Lawrence University tied for first in the MWC standings this fall and the Vikings also came out on top of a 1-0 decision on Friday, defeating Grinnell College to set up a match-up of the league's top two teams throughout the season in Friday's tournament final.
