The Lake Forest College women's hockey team is competing in this weekend's Mississippi Match-Up at the University of Dubuque, where the Foresters were defeated 4-2 by Saint Mary's University in Friday's first semifinal.
The Cardinals led 2-0 after the first period before back-to-back goals by Lake Forest sophomore forward
Ella Maher tied the score in the second. She struck at the 6:52 mark, sending in the puck after senior forward
Zoey Whittington's shot was saved by the Saint Mary's goaltender. Maher tied the score at the 13:27 mark after stealing the puck from one defenseman, evading the other, and firing a shot into the left side of the net.
The score remained 2-2 until the Cardinals converted their first power play opportunity of the contest a minute-and-a-half into the third period. They finished 2-for-2 on the power play after adding an empty net goal with 1:15 remaining.
All six of the goals and 35 of the game's 50 shots took place at one end of the ice. Saint Mary's finished with a 29-21 edge in shots in the contest.
The loss dropped the Foresters' record on the season to 2-5-2 while Saint Mary's improved to 6-3-0.
Lake Forest will play in the Mississippi Match-Up consolation final Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
