Lake Forest Drops Back-and-Forth Battle at Concordia Wisconsin in Overtime

The Forester women's hockey team earned a point in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings but fell 5-4 in overtime at Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday.

Both teams had leads in the contest, including a 2-0 advantage for the Falcons after the first period.

Lake Forest came back in the second with a pair of power play goals early in the same five-minute penalty by sophomore forwards Ella Maher and Jenna Fryar. Maher's team-high third goal of the season was scored at the 2:23 mark and Fryar's second of the year came just 28 seconds later. Senior defenseman Sophia Chapman helped set up both scores and additional assists went to junior forward Macy Gehrke and senior forward Zoey Whittington.

Concordia Wisconsin regained the lead at the 14:41 mark but Forester sophomore forward Jasmine Kohl pulled the visitors even 52.4 seconds before the second period buzzer. Sophomore forward Victoria Liu and senior defenseman Abby Meyer assisted on Kohl's second of the year.

Lake Forest took its first and only lead of the game when Whittington struck at 11:01 in the third. Gehrke and freshman forward Lily Anderson set up Whittington's second goal of the season.

The Falcons, however, tied the game on a power play goal with 5:44 to play and converted another power play opportunity 31 seconds into the overtime period.

The home team had a 42-33 edge in shots on goal in the contest.

The Foresters fell to 2-4-2 overall and 1-3-2 with seven points in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while Concordia Wisconsin improved to 7-2-0 overall and 6-0-0 with 17 points in the league.

Lake Forest will travel to the University of Dubuque for next weekend's Mississippi Match-Up. The Foresters will face off against Saint Mary's University Friday afternoon at 3:00 with a spot in Satirday's 4:00 p.m. championship game on the line.
