The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 76-70 at Marian University Wednesday night.
Forester senior guard
Rebecca Christodoulou led all players in the contest with 27 points and six assists and matched her career high while tying for game-high honors with 13 rebounds. It was her second double-double of the season and third in her career.
Sophomore guard Carreah Baitlon was the only other Lake Forest player to score in double figures with 12 points while freshman guard
Ariana Ferreira-Torralba added nine. Ferreira-Torralba and Christodoulou each connected three times from beyond the arc and Baitlon twice.
The Foresters shot 38 percent and Marian 39 from the field. The visitors' nine three-pointers were one more than the Sabres knocked down but Lake Forest was outscored 12-7 from the foul line. Marian also out-rebounded the Foresters 46-42 and committed two fewer turnovers (14-16).
Lake Forest led 22-18 after the first quarter and 37-35 at halftime. Marian, however, scored the first five points of the second half and closed out the third quarter on a 13-1 run to take a 58-43 lead. The Foresters closed to within three at 60-57 mid-way through the fourth but got no closer. A pair of free throws by Baitlon made it a 74-70 game with 30.2 seconds left but the Sabres held on for the victory.
The loss dropped the Foresters' record on the season to 1-4 while Marian improved to 1-3.
Lake Forest will host Carthage College next Tuesday evening at 5:30.
