The Lake Forest College men's basketball team posted a 70-68 victory at the University of Chicago Wednesday night.
The Foresters scored the game's first five points and led the rest of the way. After jumping out to a 13-2 lead, they continued to outscore the Maroons and were ahead by as many as 15 in the first half and 39-31 when it ended.
The lead grew to 16 points early in the second half and was 14 (62-48) after a traditional three-point play by junior guard
Alex Brown with 8:52 remaining. The Maroons mounted a comeback, however, and trimmed the margin to six in the next three minutes. A long three-pointer by senior guard
Elijah Bull with a minute-and-a-half left made it a nine-point game but back-to-back threes by the home team cut it to three with 39 seconds on the clock. A pair of Lake Forest turnovers allowed Chicago to pull to within two and have the ball with 14 seconds left but the Forester defense did not allow the Maroons to get off a shot and secured the victory.
Lake Forest junior wing
Alex Forowycz led all scorers in the game with 20 points. He shot 8-for-14 from the field and made four of his six attempts from three-point range. Senior guard
Alex Knight was next on the team with 15 points and led the squad in assists with six. Sophomore wing
Coltrane Marchand reached double figures with 11 points and Brown matched his career high with nine in just 10 minutes of play.
The Foresters shot 49 percent from the field and held Chicago to just 40 percent, helping to overcome the home team's 32-26 advantage on the boards.Â
Lake Forest improved to 2-3 on the season and gave the Maroons their first loss in three games this year.
The Foresters will host Dayspring Bible College next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
