The Forester men's basketball team dropped a 68-64 decision to Wheaton College at home Tuesday night.
The largest lead for either team in the contest was seven points and that was in favor of Lake Forest after just eight minutes of play. Wheaton came back and led 34-33 at halftime.
The Thunder advantage grew to as many as six points early in the second half but the Foresters came back and tied the score at 49 on a three-points by senior guard
Alex Knight with 11:29 remaining. Three straight baskets by the visitors restored their six-point cushion and Lake Forest's next comeback attempt was only able to trim the margin to one on a pair of free throws by senior forward
Michael Michaud with 4:35 left. Back-to-back buckets by Wheaton made it a five-point game and the Foresters got no closer than three the rest of the way.
Knight led Lake Forest with 22 points and four assists while Michaud, who recorded eight double-doubles last season, turned in his first this year with a dozen points and 10 rebounds.Â
The Foresters had a slight 39-37 edge on the boards but shot just 39 percent from the field while Wheaton was at 43 percent. The Thunder also won the turnover battle, committing six to Lake Forest's 10.
Both teams entered the game at 0-1 on the young season.
The Foresters' next two games will be part of the Emmanuel Tip-Off Tournament in Boston, Massachusetts, this weekend. They will take on Emmanuel College in Friday's 6:00 p.m. (ET) semifinal and play again in the championship or consolation game on Saturday.
