The Lake Forest College men's soccer team prevailed 4-1 at Beloit College on Wednesday to remain unbeaten in Midwest Conference play this season.
The Foresters took the early lead less than four minutes into the contest and kept the pressure on the Buccaneer defense and goalkeeper all game long. The visitors possessed the ball for nearly 70 percent of the game, attempted 37 shots to Beloit's eight, and had a 13-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
The opening goal came from sophomore
Peter Cirbo and was his fourth of the season. The home team, however, tied the score at the 12:27 mark and it remained a 1-1 game until the final minute of the first half. Forester senior
Ahmed Abdelhamed scored what proved to be the official game-winner with just 38 seconds on the clock. It was his third goal of 2024.
Junior
Gio Diaz added to Lake Forest's lead just 88 seconds into the second half with sophomore
Nico Lomanto assisting. Lomanto tied Cirbo for the team lead in that category with three this fall. Diaz struck again at the 68:41 mark with his team-high fifth goal of the year.
Lake Forest sophomore goalkeeper
Andrew Swacha made one save in the first half and two in the second to earn the victory and improve to 6-3-2 on the season. His 1.16 goals against average in all games and 0.56 in league play are the best marks in the league.
The victory raised the Foresters' overall record to 6-7-3 and, at 5-0-1 in conference play, they have secured a spot in the four-team MWC Tournament. Beloit fell to 2-14-0 overall and 1-5-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will travel to Illinois College, which is 5-0-0 in conference play, on Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
