The Lake Forest College men's soccer team blanked visiting Monmouth College 4-0 on Mohr Field on Saturday.
The Foresters took the early lead at the 10:35 mark. A long pass into the right side of the box was headed by junior
Gio Diaz over his defender to senior
Eric Rodriguez, who settled the ball before firing a shot into the left side of the goal for his first tally of the season.
Ten minutes later Rodriguez set up the second goal of the contest, giving him a career-high three points on the day. His cross from the right sideline found sophomore
Peter Cirbo, who shielded his defender while hitting the upper-right corner of the net. Cirbo now has four goals on the year.
Lake Forest also scored twice in the second half, although the first came off the foot of a Monmouth defender who was trying to clear a corner kick from Cirbo in the 71st minute.
The final goal of the game was the first career score for freshman
Finn Gruver. He chased a lead pass from junior
Griffin Weiss up the middle of the field and snuck a shot past the charging goalie and into the goal with 3:24 on the clock.
The shutout was the fourth this season and the 10th in the career of sophomore goalkeeper
Andrew Swacha, who made a pair of saves in the first half and one more in the second.
The Foresters out-shot the Fighting Scots 12-5 and had five corner kick opportunities to the visitors' one in the contest.
The victory lifted Lake Forest's overall record to 5-7-3 and the team is now 4-0-1 in Midwest Conference play. Monmouth fell to 2-9-2 overall and 0-4-1 in the league.
The Foresters will travel to Beloit College next Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
