Victory at Grinnell Lifts Lake Forest to 6-0

The Forester football team posted a 42-22 victory at Grinnell College on Saturday to remain undefeated on the season.

Senior quarterback Joshua Gasca led the Lake Forest offense, completing 16 of 24 passes for a career-high 302 yards and four touchdowns. He threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to graduate student A.J. Jackson, a 55-yarder to senior wideout Tee Land, and a 25-yarder to Jackson in the second quarter. The fourth touchdown was a 15-yard completion to senior tight end Jake Kostoryz just 23 seconds into the second half.

The Foresters' other two scores also came from Jackson, who finished off the game's opening possession with a 14-yard run and added a 13-yard rushing touchdown that broke a 7-7 tie early in the second quarter. Jackson led Lake Forest with 99 receiving yards on six catches and added 37 rushing yards on six carries and a 20-yard punt return. He has now scored 15 total touchdowns in six games this season and 59 in his career, the second-highest total in school history.

Another graduate student, defensive tackle Jaylen Johnson, led Lake Forest on the other side of the ball with eight tackles, including a sack. His 1.5 tackles for loss raised his career total in that category to 26.0. Blake Ware was next on the team with seven stops and fellow sophomore linebacker Jackson Sander had five to go along with his first career interception. He picked off a pass at the Forester 1-yardline and returned it 27 yards early in the third quarter.

Freshman cornerback Brandon Henderson and senior cornerback Darion Miller also intercepted passes for the Foresters and junior linebacker Charlie Fordon recovered a fumble forced by sophomore defensive end Preston Mosher on the first play of the third quarter. Henderson leads the team with three picks on the season and Miller now has three in his career.

Freshman kicker John Shannon made all six of his extra point attempts and has already matched the 10th-highest single-season total in that category with 29. Four of those extra points came in the second quarter as the Foresters scored 28 or more points in one period for the second time this season and ninth in program history.

The victory is Lake Forest's sixth in as many games this fall and raised the team's Midwest Conference mark to 5-0. Grinnell fell to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the league.

The Foresters will host Ripon College next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
