The Lake Forest College women's soccer team remains tied atop the Midwest Conference standings after playing to a 2-2 tie at co-leader Lawrence University Saturday night.
A slow start cost the Foresters as a pair of goals resulting from corner kick opportunities just 66 seconds apart gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead just 15 minutes into the contest.
Lake Forest did not allow another shot on goal in the contest and cut the lead in half at the 22:14 mark. A throw-in from the right side by sophomore
Lola Halsband bounced over a Lawrence defender in the box and found Forester junior
Anna Gracia, who fired a right-footed shot past the goalkeeper and into the net.
The score remained 2-1 for the next 50 minutes, despite Lake Forest putting three shots on goal without allowing any during that span. The game-tying score came at the 72:44 mark when a long pass into the box by Halsband bounced off the foot of a Viking defender toward Gracia. She and the goalkeeper arrived at the ball at the same time and it trickled away for her to kick in and tie the score. It was Gracia's fourth score of the season.
The Foresters put five more shots on goal in the final 15 minutes but ere unable to break the tie. They finished the contest with 15 total shot attempts to Lawrence's eight.
Lake Forest is now 7-2-3 overall this season while Lawrence is 8-3-2. The teams are tied for first place in the MWC at 3-0-1 in the league.
The Foresters will host a non-conference game against North Park University Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
