The Lake Forest College men's basketball team trimmed a 19-point second half deficit to six but got no closer in a 74-58 loss at Cornell College on Saturday.
The Rams led 36-23 at halftime and went on a 7-1 run to make the score 43-24 less than two minutes into the second half. The Foresters were unable to get any closer than 12 until a three-pointer by sophomore wing
Alex Forowycz pulled the visitors to within nine with 5:43 to play. They eventually closed to within six at 61-55 with four minutes left but scored just three points the rest of the way.
Forowycz shot 6-for-13 from three-point range and led Lake Forest with 22 points. Junior forward
Michael Michaud was next on the squad with a dozen points and he tied with junior guard
Elijah Bull for the team lead with eight rebounds.
The Foresters made just one-third of their field goal attempts while Cornell shot 51.8 percent from the field in the contest. Lake Forest out-rebounded the home team 44-33 but committed 13 turnovers while forcing just six.
The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record on the season to 3-11 and Midwest Conference mark to 1-4. They split the season series with Cornell, which improved to 4-10 overall and are also 1-4 in the league.
Lake Forest will host Ripon College Tuesday evening at 5:30.
