The Lake Forest College women's basketball team dropped a 90-66 decision to visiting Knox College on Wednesday in its first game of the new year.
After setting season-highs in scoring each of the last two games with 17 points on Friday and 22 on Saturday, Forester senior guard
Maurissa Edwards continued that trend with 28 on Wednesday. She shot 12-for-22 from the field in the contest.
Fellow senior guard
Melissa Gomez was next on the team with 11 points and junior guard
Rebecca Christodoulou added nine.
The Foresters also had the game's leading rebounder in junior forward
Emmy Punches, who pulled down a season-high 10.
Lake Forest shot 40.6 percent from the field while the Prairie Fire were at 48.7 percent. The teams combined to make just five three-pointers and the visitors had just a slight 13-12 edge in made free throws. Rebounds were even at 43 apiece but turnovers were not as the Foresters committed 28 to Knox's 15.
The Prairie Fire outscored the Foresters 31-18 in the first quarter and 27-17 in the second, taking a 58-35 lead into the locker room at halftime. The margin grew to as many as 34 points in the second half.
Lake Forest is now 2-10 overall and 1-3 in Midwest Conference play this season. Knox improved to 10-3 overall and evened its league mark at 2-2.
The Foresters will play at Cornell College on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
