A night after posting a 2-0 victory at Marian University, the Lake Forest College women's hockey team shut out the Sabres 1-0 at home Sunday evening.
Forester freshman goaltender
Chelsea Denniss made 24 saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season and improve to 9-4-0 with a 1.53 goals against average and .944 save percentage.Â
Lake Forest out-shot Marian 46-24 in the contest and had a 30-20 advantage in that category through two scoreless periods.
The home team finally netted the game's only goal with just 4:11 on the third period clock. Junior defenseman
Abby Meyer stepped in front of an attempt by Marian to clear the zone, moved up into the right circle, and fired a shot into the left side of the goal. It was her team-high sixth goal of the season and she also leads the squad in points with a dozen.
The Sabres pulled their goalie with more than a minute remaining in the game but Dennis turned away their only shot on goal during that span.
The Foresters improved to 11-7-0 overall and 8-2-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while Marian fell to 6-10-1 overall and 4-6-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will host league-leading Adrian College next weekend with Friday night's game scheduled for 7:00 and Saturday's for 4:00 p.m.
