The Lake Forest College volleyball team was edged out in five sets at Concordia University Chicago Tuesday night.
All five sets were close and two needed more than 25 points to win. The Foresters took the first 25-21 but dropped the second 26-24. The visitors regained the lead with a 27-25 triumph in set three but the Cougars won the fourth 25-22 and fifth 15-12 to take the match.
Lake Forest trailed 11-5 in the final set before closing to within one at 13-12. Concordia Chicago, however, won the next two points to secure the victory.
Seniors
Grace Franz and
Mary Gegen posted double-doubles for the Foresters. Franz finished with a team-high 16 kills and 18 digs and also led the squad with three aces. Gegen's 10 kills and 17 digs gave her double figure totals in both categories for the second straight match and for the 18th time in her career.
Fellow senior
Holland Smits added nine kills, one shy of her career high.
Lake Forest's setters, sophomore
Lilly Robinson and junior
Juli Barrientos, combined for 43 assists and each finished with 11 digs and a pair of aces.
Freshman
Mia Atkins was part of six of the Foresters' nine blocks on the night and now has 18 in four matches this season.
The Foresters will not play again until next Tuesday night's home opener against Milwaukee School of Engineering. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
