The Forester cross country teams competed at Beloit College's Olde English on Saturday. The Lake Forest women won the event while the men placed third.
The men's 8-kilometer run was first and the Foresters were led by junior
Bart Brophy, who was sixth overall with a time of 29:54.1. Sophomore
Patrick Cadiz was next on the squad and 16th out of 33 runners overall at 32:46.3. Lake Forest freshmen
Sam Smith and
Austin Hewes were among the next five finishers and classmate
Tyson Sutherland rounded out the team's top five.
Illinois College finished first in the team standings ahead of second-place Rockford University.
Lake Forest had three of the top seven finishers in the women's 6-kilometer event. Freshman
Sophie Graham pulled away from the runner-up early in the second mile and won by 51 seconds with a time of 26:06.3. Fellow freshman
Lettia Hoda was fourth overall in 27:56.3 and junior
Delfina Jorgensen's 28:55.8 was good for seventh place. Senior
Becca Ray (11th) and sophomores
Jacquelyn Han (13th) and
Julie Dorner (14th) also finished in the top half of the 32-runner field.
The Foresters' 36 points were 13 better than runner-up Beloit.
The next meet on Lake Forest's schedule is the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational on Saturday, October 14.
