Lake Forest Notches Shutout at Knox

The Forester football team rolled 50-0 at Knox College on Saturday to improve to 4-0 on the season.

The shutout was Lake Forest's second of the season, 11th in the team's last 45 games, and 192nd in school history. The Prairie Fire offense was limited to just 142 total yards while the Foresters racked up 576, the ninth-highest total in team annals.

In addition to their prowess on offense and defense, the Foresters also dominated on special teams. The first two scores of the game were punt return touchdowns, the first 49 yards by fifth-year A.J. Jackson and the second 66 yards by junior Jayce Knutsen. It was the NCAA Division III record ninth career punt return touchdown for Jackson.

Graduate student Tre Stewart led the offense, passing for 276 yards and two touchdowns and adding a team-high 88 yards on the ground. He connected with junior wide receiver Langston Metoyer on a 26-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and with junior tight end Jake Kostoryz on a 3-yarder in the third. Stewart, who surpassed 4,000 career passing yards on Saturday and is now tied-for-third in team history with 41 touchdown passes, has accounted for 1,088 yards of total offense and eight touchdowns in four games this season.

Lake Forest's backup quarterbacks were also effective on Saturday. Junior Joshua Gasca and freshman Michael Kasemervisz combined for five completions in six attempts for 60 yards. Gasca completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to junior wideout Trevor Land and sophomore wide receiver Tommy Carberry's first career touchdown catch was a 4-yarder from Kasemervisz.

The Foresters' other touchdown was a 3-yard rush by junior running back Mal Chunn, who ran for 49 yards in the contest. Junior wide receiver Dax Lindholm led the squad with six receptions and 105 yards.

Junior linebacker Nik Reick, sophomore defensive end Mark Rice, and fifth-year linebacker Dylan Pedersen led the Lake Forest defense with four tackles apiece. Two of Rice's stops occurred behind the line of scrimmage, including a 9-yard sack.

The victory was the Foresters' third in as many Midwest Conference games this fall. Knox fell to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Lake Forest will play its Homecoming game against Lawrence University next Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
