Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Shutout of Trine Extends Winning Streak to Nine Games

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team hosted and defeated Trine University 4-0 on Sunday.

The Foresters have now won nine consecutive games, matching the third-longest winning streak in program history. Six of the victories have been shutouts, including Sunday's 14-save performance by freshman goaltender Chelsea Denniss. Denniss is now 7-2-0 with a .945 save percentage and 1.57 goals against average on the year.

The first goal and official game-winner against Trine came from sophomore forward Emma Sweeney at the 4:49 mark of the second period. Her first shot on a breakaway opportunity was saved but she put in the rebound to give the Foresters the lead. The added to it seven minutes later when fellow sophomore forward Shannon Gibbons came out from behind the net and fired a shot past the Trine goaltender to make the score 2-0.

Junior defenseman Sophia Chapman scored from beyond the blue line midway through the third period to make it a three-goal game and freshman defenseman Annika Sankner's empty net tally with 35.2 seconds on the clock closed out the scoring.

All four of Lake Forest's goal scorers now have two on the season.

The non-conference victory raised the Foresters' record this season to 9-4-0 while Trine fell to 4-12-0.

Lake Forest will be in action again at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Wednesday night at 7:00.
