The Lake Forest College women's hockey team scored five times in the final period of Friday's 6-0 triumph over the University of Dubuque.
It was the eighth consecutive victory for the Foresters, who matched the fourth-longest winning streak in program history.Â
Friday's win was also the team's fifth shutout during that span as sophomore
Angie Lombardi and junior
Donna Fowler combined to make 17 saves while keeping the Spartans off the scoreboard.
Lake Forest put 70 shots on goal in the contest but led by just one after 40 minutes of play. The only goal at that point was the first career tally for freshman defenseman
Mary Kate Hewitt at the 14:48 mark of the opening period.
Freshman forward VIctoria Liu set up Hewitt's score and added one of her on in the third. Sophomore forward
Macy Gehrke also had a goal and assist on the afternoon while sophomore forward
Shannon Gibbons finished with a pair of helpers.
Additional goals were scored by senior forward
Caitlyn Dahut, freshman forward
Ella Maher, and sophomore forward
Zara Post.
Lake Forest improved to 8-4-0 on the year while Dubuque fell to 2-9-0 in its first season as an NCAA program.
The Spartans will take on Trine University in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse at noon on Saturday and Lake Forest will host Trine at the same time on Sunday.
