The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 53-40 at Grinnell College on Saturday in the Midwest Conference opener for both programs.
Grinnell scored the game's first 14 points and led 20-9 after 10 minutes of play. The margin grew to 20 (34-14) at halftime and the Pioneers led 52-23 at the end of three quarters.
Junior guard
Taylor Major led Lake Forest with 12 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard
Jamie Springstead was next on the team with 11 points and senior guard
Melissa Gomez chipped in with eight.
The Foresters shot just 24.5 percent from the field and 3-for-16 from three-point range. Grinnell was at 35.8 percent overall and 11-for-34 from beyond the arc. Lake Forest had a 43-36 edge in rebounds but committed 19 turnovers while forcing just eight.
The loss left Lake Forest with an overall record of 0-6 while Grinnell improved to 4-2.
Conference play will continue for the Foresters on Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. match-up with visiting Monmouth College.
