The Forester men's hockey team had the early lead before dropping a 6-3 decision to visiting University of Wisconsin-Stout Friday night.
The home team took the early lead at the 8:55 mark of the opening period on sophomore forward
Philip Quetell's first career goal. Junior defenseman
Matteas Derraugh and sophomore forward
Justin Ross assisted on the play. Stout, however, evened the score less than a minute later on the final 5-on-5 goal of the night.
Lake Forest regained the advantage at the 12:49 mark on the second career short-handed goal by senior forward
Tyler Nielsen. Junior defenseman
Connor Sullivan poked the puck to Nielsen in the middle of the defensive zone and Nielsen did the rest, splitting a pair of Blue Devils before racing up the left side of the ice and firing a shot under the goalie's glove. The Foresters were able to kill that penalty but not the next and the game was tied at two after 20 minutes of play.
The only score of the second stanza was another Stout power play goal just 46 seconds into the period.
After a short-handed goal from the visitors five minutes into the third period, the Foresters responded at the 12:33 mark with sophomore forward
Chase Freiermuth's second of the season. He collected the rebound off a shot from junior defenseman
Connor Scahill and pulled the Foresters back to within one.
The Blue Devils, however, converted a power play opportunity of their own less than two minutes later and clinched the victory with an empty net score with 1:26 remaining.
Lake Forest is now 2-3-0 and Stout 2-1-1 this year. They will face off again Saturday afternoon at 3:30.
