Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

High-Scoring Draw for Lake Forest and Benedictine

The Forester women's soccer team erased a two-goal deficit and played to a 4-4 tie with visiting Benedictine University on Monday.

Lake Forest had nearly 60 percent of the possession in the first half but the visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 13 minutes of the contest.

Forester sophomore Anna Hoffman cut the deficit in half at the 21:13 mark. The ball was played in to her from the right side and, after her first shot was saved, Hoffman kicked in the rebound for her third score of the season.

After the Eagles struck again less than a minute later, Lake Forest closed back to within one on a header from freshman Anna Diebold at 29:34. The play started with a corner kick from the right side by junior Theresa Presberg. Hoffman met the pass with a strong header, but it caromed off the crossbar. Diebold was in the right place at the right time and headed it back into the goal for her first career score.

The home team continued to have the better of the play in the second half and finished the game with 61 percent possession. Sophomore Anna Gracia tied the score at the 51.31 mark, taking a pass into the box from Hoffman, deflecting it straight up into the air, and then sending it toward the goal before the ball hit the ground. The Benedictine goalie reached up a got a hand on it but the ball bounced into the goal before she was able to clear it.

Lake Forest senior Ella Manthey drew a foul while trying to take a shot just above the top of the box in the 75th minute. Presberg took it the free kick and sent it over the wall but below the crossbar for her second goal of the year.

Trying to hold on the for the comeback victory, the Foresters surrendered the tying goal with less than four minutes on the clock and had to settle for their fifth tie this fall. The four they had coming into the game were already the most in program history.

At 4-3-5 overall and 2-0-1 in Midwest Conference play, Lake Forest will celebrate Homecoming against Lawrence University this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
