Foresters Run Over Cornell, Improve to 4-0

Box Score

The Lake Forest College football team rushed for 325 yards and a program record 9.0 yards per attempt in a 41-7 victory at Cornell College on Saturday.

Graduate student Damon Bonds carried the ball 20 times for 174 yards and three touchdowns in the contest. Senior Armani Brown also hit triple figures, running for 103 yards on just 10 attempts.

The first two scores by Bonds came in the opening period. After Cornell's only trip to the end zone in the second quarter, sophomore Jayce Knutsen turned in the Forester special teams highlight of the day, a 66-yard kickoff return.

Knutsen also ran for 14 yards and returned two punts a combined 18 yards on the day.

The Foresters scored three times on third quarter passes by senior Tre Stewart, who was 18-for-33 for 145 yards and went without an interception for the third time in four games this year. He connected with senior Alan Hanson on a 2-yard touchdown, sophomore tight end Jake Kostoryz on a 15-yarder, and sophomore wide receiver Seth Jelovic from eight yards out. They were the first career touchdowns for Kostoryz and Jelovic.

Bonds reached the end zone on a 36-yard run with 8:15 to play and a field goal for the home team at the 4:40 mark accounted for the final score.

The Lake Forest defense limited the Rams to 195 yards of total offense, including just 44 on the ground. Senior defensive lineman Robert McPhee led the unit with six tackles and recorded one of the Foresters' 11 tackles for loss. Senior defensive ends Alex Bendler and Justin Albee finished with 2.5 and 2.0 sacks, respectively. The visitors won the turnover battle as Albee and senior linebacker Javan Ah Quin forced fumbles that were recovered by junior defensive lineman Jaylen Johnson and sophomore linebacker Nik Reick.

The Foresters are now 4-0 overall and 3-0 in Midwest Conference play this season. Their regular season winning streak has now reached 17 games and they have won 14 in a row against fellow members of the MWC.

Cornell is now 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Lake Forest will welcome Illinois College for Homecoming next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
