Foresters Split Dual Meet at Carroll

Junior Lily McCarthy won a pair of individual events as the Lake Forest College swimming and diving teams split at Carroll University on Saturday. The men prevailed 110-87 while the women were edged out 99-98.

The Foresters started the day with a sweep in the 200-medley relay. Junior Brigit Dunne, senior Lauren Dalecky, freshman Rachel Trevillian, and senior Emily Bowens finished in 1:55.61, less than a second ahead of the Pioneers. Seniors Virgil Thomas, Josh Georgeff, Orion Huey, and Travis Johnson posted a more convincing victory in the men's race, finishing in 1:40.02 and more than four seconds before Carroll.

Lake Forest also won the first four individual races at the meet. Junior Toni Corbani and senior Sean Flanigan swept the 1000-freestyle with times of 11:32.49 and 11:00.71, respectively. Corbani was nearly 20 seconds ahead of the runner-up while Flanigan's triumph in the men's race was by less than a second. McCarthy then took the women's 200-freestyle in 2:05.01 and Thomas the men's race in 1:51.96.

Huey was the next victorious Forester, sprinting to a time of 22.43 seconds in the 50-freestyle. His win was followed up by freshman Ani Karagianis touching the wall first in the women's 200-IM in 2:25.54.

The 200-butterfly brought another Forester sweep with Trevillian taking the women's race with a time of 2:22.39 and senior James Haney the men's in 2:06.59.

After Carroll swept the 100-freestyle, Lake Forest posted first-place finishes in four of the next five races. Bowens began the run with a winning time of 2:16.47 in the 200-backstroke. McCarthy and senior Christopher Martinez then swept the 500-freestyle with times of 5:28.88 and 4:59.54, respectively. Thomas was second in the men's race in exactly 5:20. Dalecky prevailed in the final women's individual event, the 200-breaststroke, with a time of 2:32.68, just 0.02 seconds ahead of the runner-up from Carroll.

Carroll edged out the Foresters by just 0.14 seconds in the women's 400-freestyle relay to pull ahead in the standings but the Lake Forest closed out the meet by winning the men's race in 3:19.26. Junior David Bunting led off, followed by senior Sam Freedberg, Johnson, and Huey.

Lake Forest is now 1-1 on the men's side and 0-2 for the women in dual meets this season.
