Foresters Take on Tough Competition at Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular

Forester freshman diver Heath Ogawa broke a pair of program records on Saturday at the Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular at Hope College. The Lake Forest men's and women's swimming and diving teams each finished fourth at the meet.

Ogawa tallied 294.80 points to place second in the 3-meter competition, breaking the previous school record of 286.20 set by Guy Stehley on January 30, 1980. It was the program's oldest record, a week ahead of Stehley's 6-dive mark off the 1-meter board, which Ogawa also broke on Saturday. His score of 297.75 points shattered the old mark of 271.00, set on February 7, 1980. Stehley still owns the 3-meter record for 11 dives, which he set on February 16, 1980.

Lake Forest had two more runner-up finishes, both in the 1000-freestyle. Sophomore Lily McCarthy was second in the women's race with a time of 11:10.68 and senior Kristofer Korth placed second in the men's in 10:05.64. Sophomore Toni Corbano was also fifth in the women's race in 11:21.32 and classmate Ian Murphy's time of 10:34.06 was good for fifth place in the men's competition.

The Forester men had two swimmers place among the top five in the 200-freestyle. Junior Christopher Martinez finished fourth in 1:49.75 while senior Armel Cazedepats was tied-for-fifth, just .05 seconds behind Martinez.

Sophomore Simona Kurta recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200-IM with a time of 2:19.08.

Cazedepats and Murphy were in the top five in the 200-butterfly, placing third in 2:06.67 and fourth in 2:11.84, respectively.

A pair of Lake Forest women placed among the top five in the 200-backstroke. Junior Emily Bowens was fourth in 2:17.69 while sophomore Brigit Dunne finished fifth with a time of 2:19.58. On the men's side, junior Orion Huey placed fifth in 2:01.18.

McCarthy and Martinez posted fourth-place finishes in the 500-freestyle. McCarthy's time was 5:24.68 and Matinez's 4:59.75.

Korth added a third-place finish in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:12.01.

Kalamazoo College finished on top of the men's and women's team standings. The Hope women were second and the men third while the Wheaton College men were the runners-up and the women finished third.

The Foresters will swim in double-duals each of the next two Saturdays. Next week the team will travel to Lawrence University to take on the Vikings as well as the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks. The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m.
