Lake Forest Wins 22 of 25 Events in Victory over Ripon

David Bunting was one of five Foresters to post a pair of individual victories as the Lake Forest swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet with visiting Ripon College on Saturday. The men won 121-66 and the women 106-97.

Bunting finished first in the 200m-IM with a time of 2:17.81 and the 100m-backstroke in 1:04.22. He also led off the Foresters' victorious 200m-freestyle relay, which finished in 1:41.93.

Other double-event winners included sophomores Toni Corbani and Lily McCarthy, junior James Haney, and freshman Heath Ogawa. Corbani earned victories in the 800m-freestyle (9:49.02) and 400m-freestyle (4:54.02). McCarthy touched the wall first in the 200m-freestyle (2:20.25) and 100m-freestyle (1:05.40). Like Corbani, Haney swept the 800m-freestyle (9:11.88) and 400m-freestyle (4:27.09). Ogawa took the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 228.85 and improved on his third-place ranking in program history with 271.15 points off the 3-meter board.

The Forester men, who won every event, also got individual victories from senior Armel Cazedepats in the 200m-freestyle (2:02.25), junior Orion Huey in the 50m-freestyle (24.72), junior Virgil Thomas in the 100m-butterfly (1:02.96), senior Kristofer Korth in the 100m-freestyle (54.99), and junior Christopher Martinez in the 100m-breaststroke (1:11.72). In addition, Huey combined with junior Ryan Keast, sophomore Ian Murphy, and junior Travis Johnson for a time of 1:54.69 and a victory in the 200m-medley relay to begin the meet. Bunting was followed by Johnson, Korth, and sophomore Landon Longfield on the winning 200m-freestyle relay, which finished in 1:41.93.

On the women's side, sophomores Brigit Dunne, Jessica Cline, and Simona Kurta and junior Emily Bowens won the meet-opening 200m-medley relay in 2:11.63. Kurta also finished first in the 200m-IM in 2:34.25, freshman Rachael Purgerson won the 1-meter diving competition with 180.55 points, Bowens prevailed in the 100m-backstroke in 1:08.83, and Cline posted a victory with a time of 1:24.57 in the 100m-breaststroke.

The Lake Forest men are now 3-3 and the women 1-5 this year. The Red Hawks are now 1-2 on the men's side while the women are 0-3.

The Foresters will be in action again next weekend at the University of Chicago's Phoenix Fall Classic. Competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
